Ding Liren is a Chinese chess grandmaster who made history by becoming the 17th World Chess Champion, holding the title from 2023 to 2024. Renowned for his deep positional understanding, exceptional endgame prowess, and resilience under pressure, he famously set a record-breaking 100-game unbeaten streak in top-level classical chess between 2017 and 2018.
A prodigy from Wenzhou, China, he earned his grandmaster title at just 16 years old—becoming the youngest player ever to win the Chinese Chess Championship at the time—and later achieved a historic peak Elo rating of 2816 in 2018, making him the first Chinese player to cross the prestigious 2800 threshold.
