Jeremy Silman Tournament

Begins August 1st and lasts for four weeks: August 1, 8, 15, 22.

Jeremy Silman was an American International Master (IM) and one of the most celebrated chess authors and educators in modern history. Renowned for his ability to break down complex strategic concepts for amateur players, he was a massive fixture in the Southern California chess community. He frequently played, lectured, and supported members at the Santa Monica Bay Chess Club, leaving a lasting local legacy.

He is best known for his groundbreaking book, How to Reassess Your Chess, which revolutionized chess instruction by introducing a highly structured system based on “imbalances.” Through his prolific writing, coaching, and work as a chess consultant for Hollywood, Silman helped generations of players master the positional elements of the game before his passing in 2023.
